On March 4, 2019, actor Luke Perry, age 52, died at St. Joseph’s Medical Center in Burbank, California, leaving behind his two children Sophie and Jack Perry.

Perry died of a massive stroke, in which doctors had to sedate him to reduce the amount of brain damage caused by the stroke.* Usually, strokes most commonly occur in older individuals, ranging in ages 60 or higher. Though the cause of Perry’s stroke was unreleased by his family, causes of a stroke in younger people include a possible blood clot, possible drug use, or possible hypertension.*

Luke Perry has immensely contributed to television history by starring in hit shows such as Beverly Hills 90210 and Riverdale. Perry is well known by the older audience as the breath-taking and heart-throbbing Dylan McKay back in the early 1990s [in Beverly Hills 90210].

He later took on the role of the supporting Fred Andrews, father of Archie Andrews [in CW’s Riverdale] in early 2017.

Junior, Arielle Canchola (Div. 029),  has followed Perry throughout his career and says  “I fell in love with Luke Perry through his character Dylan McKay from Beverly Hills 90210, so I went into Riverdale already loving him. He was a great Actor, but I love how real he was off screen and that’s not something you find easily in Hollywood nowadays. He was a person nobody could talk bad about and everyone knew it.”

Another junior, Kayla Niemann (Div. 028) refers to Perry as one of her favorite Riverdale characters.

“Luke Perry was such a big part of Riverdale, he showed Archie’s character to the full extent because of the chemistry they had as actors. It’s sad that he died because he was such a big and important part of the show, and personally I’m sad we lost a great actor,” said Niemann.

Many Eagles in the Taft Community send their condolences to Perry’s family and best wishes regarding the unfortunate circumstances.
