The Senior Committee announced  this year’s prom theme: “All That Jazz.”  Prom is set to take place at the Hyatt Residency in Rosemont at 6 in the evening.

Taft will start off their 2019 prom season with a fashion show as it is time to start renting or buying tuxedos, dresses, shoes, and ordering corsages.

“I’m actually really excited, what a coincidence that I was talking about prom with a friend yesterday about what I would want to wear to prom. The most I’m willing to spend is like $500. Most of that money is going to be spent on the shoes. Outfit isn’t complete without the fresh kicks,” said Senior Jesse Diaz, Div 937.

Prom tickets will be sold In the main office. To successfully purchase your ticket, you will need to provide your school ID and be eligible to participate. In order to be eligible, you have to be passing all classes, complete all Naviance tasks, follow the student code of conduct, attendance rate 90% or higher, and a 90% or higher on-time-to-class rate.

“Another thing I think about when it comes to prom is eligibility. I hope all my friends are able to go to prom with me because this is a once in a lifetime experience and what better way to go out with a bang with the boys. Most of all, I hope I’m eligible by the time we can buy ticket. This is something I’ve been waiting for since I got to Taft as a little freshmen, and it would be a shame if me or any other student couldn’t go because we weren’t eligible,” said Diaz.

Students are really struggling to successfully make the deadline for senior eligibility. The biggest challenge is getting that attendance rate at a 90% and higher.

Another “need to know,” if you plan on bringing a non-Taft student date, you will need to fill out a guest form when purchasing your ticket.

Principal, Mark Grishaber said, “ We’re looking forward to [prom]. It’s gonna be the same place it was last year in Rosemont. We’re going to have a great DJ, as usual. There are rumors that there might be a dance off that night between a couple of adults and the rest of the staff. I’m just gonna put that out there.”

Prom tickets will be available for purchase at the end of May.
