William Howard Taft High School hangs a new banner in the main gymnasium that reads “William Howard Taft High School Believes in Sportsmanship.”

The inspirational banner was installed at the beginning of November to cover up aged and worn out spots on the gym walls. The banner is meant to distract from the previously removed signs on the walls supporting old Taft sports teams.

The gym has had no signs up leaving barely any school spirit inside besides the blue bleachers and floor markings. Principal Mark Grishaber put up this banner to bring back a feeling of sportsmanship and school pride to the gym.

“We got it to cover up the out areas in the gym. I like it!” said Grishaber who stated the banner cost around $450.00.

For some students, the banner plays a factor in their self-confidence and pride when seen. Varsity Basketball player, Isaiah Milanovic (Div. 932) noticed the banner the very first day it was put up.

Milanovic stated that the banner inspires him and his teammates and that it was worth putting up.

“The new banner inspires me because me and my teammates all believe in sportsmanship… I think that this is good for the school for when an opposing team walks in and see the big blue banner. I think it was worth getting the banner because at Taft, sportsmanship is important,” said Milanovic.

The new banner is here to stay to inspire the eagles who walk into the gym everyday.  At sporting events, the message is clear to all visiting schools.
