The Varsity soccer team beat the George Westinghouse College Prep Warriors yesterday with a final score of 5-0.

Varsity’s game started off strong, with scoring the first two goals within the first five minutes. During the second half player Shelly Buitron suffered from an injury and was taken out for the rest of the game, but that didn’t slow down the Eagles with two more goals before the game was over and the final score was 4-0. Although, the Warriors put up a fight, it was no match for the Eagles in the end.

Head coach Christine Medunycia was quite pleased with the overall results of the game and will continue to work with the girls on some of the skills they had difficulties with this game.

“After the game against Westinghouse we were able to see some areas that are progressing well and others that need work. An area that is progressing and that, likewise, needs improvement, is shots on goal. We could also see that passing and accuracy could improve. Our  communication, creativeness in their third of the field and crosses were very good. Teamwork was top notch and we will continue to build on that. Coaching this team is an absolute pleasure, they are hardworking, motivated, coachable, have a strong desire to improve and have a camaraderie that can’t be matched. I look forward to working with them everyday and do my best to match their enthusiasm and facilitate their technique and tactical awareness.” said Medunycia.

Team captain Danielle Jozefczyk is proud of the team and how they worked together to accomplish this extremely exciting win. She knows that they need to improve, but is excited to start working on it together.

“I was very happy that we won against Westinghouse. We were aggressive from the start, and it paid off with a 5-0 win. We stayed calm and played our game. I also thought we did extremely well with shots,” said Jozefczyk.

The team’s next match will be the PepsiCo Showdown game held at Olympic Park in Schaumburg which starts on Sat. April 7 and will continue until the 14.
