Improv, a student lead team, held a performance on Friday Dec. 8th demonstrating the skills to think on the spot and improvise, sparking new creative ideas and sketches from a range of topics including suggestions given by the audience.

Nine members of the team took part in the performance that lasted from five o’clock pm to a six o’clock pm. The team, formed officially last year, was designed to showcase the talent and creativity that resides at Taft Members ranging from the seventh to twelfth grade level allowing a diversity of talents that are able to be showcased in their performances.

“It’s really cool to see every single person kind of add their own dynamic to it, their own personality, and their own skills.[…] I’m really proud of their dedication they’ve been doing at least once a week since the second week of school, and the past two weeks almost everyday. Just coming in, they’re all really dedicated to it; so I’m proud of that,” said Quintin Nadig, sponsor of the Improve team.

Creativity is key to being able to create an amazing performance, and in improv, the awe comes from seeing what each member has to bring to the table and the spur of the moment responses. The Improv team is lead by Sean Slawek and Co-led by Matthew Reyes.

“Anything can happen and based on what we saw there were some things that went really well and some things that were iffy. But with everything there’s always going to be improvement that can be made,” said Reyes.

Improv demonstrates the fluidity of the mind, and showcases the talent and creativity of taft students in a unique and entertaining way. Auditions for Improv team are currently closed but are subject to change in the future. Another Improv performance is planned to be held March 8th of next year. The Improv team will continue to practice, grow, and inspire as they progress through the year.
