Taft’s annual Elective Fair is back thanks to the scheduling director, Marianne Villasenor for freshmen, sophomores, and juniors to visit and receive insight on the different classes that Taft has to offer!

The Elective Fair gives students the opportunity to educate themselves on all the courses and new electives that are available for students to take next year. The fair is located in the library and will continue until Thurs. Jan. 18th. The fair gives examples for what a student would be doing in different classes and suggestions to which classes students should take.

At least one teacher in each department is available for the students to come in and ask any question that they may have about classes. The fair is meant to inform the students so that they make good choices that benefit them and bring their interests into school when choosing their classes for the next school year.

“The Elective Fair is necessary for students to see their options, so they have an idea of the classes they want to take when they visit their counselor. Also not just for the following year, also for their future years at Taft, such as senior year because there are a lot more options for students to pick from,” said Sergio Diaz.

Going to the Elective Fair gives students insight on some of the lesser known classes that could possibly spark an interest. Even if the student is a freshman and most of their sophomore year courses are chosen for them, it gives ideas of classes they could take later.

“I came to the fair today to learn about the classes that Taft has to offer and figure out what classes to take next year since my schedule for senior year allows me to take classes that connect with my interests. And the Elective Fair today did just that for me! I learned about the new and interesting classes that could help benefit me for college and my future,” said junior Tijana Nikolic.

“A lot of times students will get into a class and they’re disappointed by what the class learns or does because they thought it was something different just due to the fact that they looked at the name. And so by coming to the Elective Fair students get the chance to see examples as to what they would be doing in that class such as art, you can see examples of what you would be making in that class,” said Villasenor.

The Elective Fair gives students the opportunity to be more in control of their class programming and will be held every year in January for students to view their class options at Taft High School.
